BEMA member benefits

Charter Member – Membership is restricted to any corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship, or individual that manufactures ballast water treatment systems. This status is to be proven by demonstration that the company has achieved IMO Type Approval under the 2004 International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments and/or U.S. Coast Guard Type Approval under 46CFR162.060 for at least one (1) product. Charter membership entitles the member to voting rights in the Association, eligibility for one (1) of four(4) dedicated Board of Director positions reserved for Charter

members and eligibility to serve as an Officer.

Full Member - Any corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship, or individual that manufactures, sells, or distributes equipment or provides services to ships intended to reduce the environmental impacts of shipping (e.g., manufacturers of hull cleaning equipment, and/or service providers offering their own hull cleaning equipment or processes, manufacturers of exhaust gas cleaning equipment). Full membership entitles the member to voting rights in the Association, eligibility for one (1) dedicated Board of Director position reserved for Full Members, and eligibility to serve as an Officer.

Associate Member - Any corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship or individual that manufactures, supplies and/or services equipment in support of the biosecurity industry (e.g., ballast water treatment, biofouling) or other emerging environmental technologies, operates as an engineering or consulting firm assisting with the design, testing, installation or use of these sectors, provides testing, inspection, and/or technical services, or is a ballast water equipment manufacturer in the process of testing a ballast water treatment system under the IMO Type Approval under the 2004 International Convention for the Control and Management of

Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments and/or U.S. Coast Guard Type Approval under  6CFR162.060, as may be amended, for at least one (1) product shall be eligible for Associate membership. Associate membership entitles the member to voting rights in the Association, eligibility for one (1) Board of Director position reserved for Associate members and eligibility to serve as an Officer.

Basic Member –  Any organization (i.e., governmental, educational, research, etc.), or company that is not otherwise eligible for Charter, Full, or Associate Membership, or an individual who may be useful to and interested in supporting the objectives of the Association shall be eligible for this class of membership. Basic membership entitles the member to the benefits of the Association, excluding voting rights and eligibility for Board and/or Officer positions. BEMA will display the logo of the organization or company that receives and pays the invoice for the membership dues. For individuals who wish to join BEMA, dues payments must be made by the individual themselves (i.e., not the company they may be employed or contracted by). Basic Members may be included in the membership directory, and/or on BEMA’s website

or in promotional literature. Basic members may use the BEMA logo on their websites and in their promotional literature.

Student - Any individual actively engaged in personal education pursuits (i.e., high school, university (undergraduate or graduate studies), etc.) shall be eligible for student membership. Student membership entitles students to the benefits of the Association excluding voting rights and eligibility for Board and/or Officer positions. Proof of student status required will be required upon applying for student membership and at each annual renewal for this membership level.
